I used to watch a lot of anime when I was younger, in my university days, in my 20s. Nowadays I don't watch so much, but a lot of people talked about it, so I watched it.

No, Japanese anime. I watched the first ones, like Evangelion and Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. The original ones -- because I watched a lot of anime when I was younger.

Yeah, I think so. The animation probably has a lot to do with it. But a lot of Western people -- maybe the darker anime, that explores the darker side of humanity -- that tends to have a lot of appeal, because it's very different to the storylines and character arcs of Western stories.

Yeah, vicariously means when you live through someone else's life. You live your life through someone else.

Yeah, you could use it like that, but a better example would be someone who has a totally different persona on the internet, and they live their life through that character -- their internet persona is more important to them than their real-life self and friends. Or parents who prioritize the success of their children over their own lives -- parents live vicariously through their children, so their focus is on those lives rather than their own.
