新種は#25二重助動詞(can might / could can、1夜2発)。 次の宿題: a new lease on life を次のレッスンで1回使う。

3/3So it's very extravagant, extravagant way.
Exactly — warm and snug inside. In summer I crank the AC down, get the room freezing, and burrow under a thick blanket. I know it's terrible for the environment, but AC blasting while you're bundled up — that's pure decadence.
blasting は07-19「AC blowing up」(爆発)からの完全雪辱、bundled up も同時搭載。ただしエコ罪の告白が against global warming(温暖化に反対)で環境活動になった — 悪事は terrible for the environment。

1/3Yes. And I want to be like get got get uh lightning, you know what I mean? Uh because it makes you a special person.
2/3Some people get kind of like lightning and get a new ability. Uh and kind of superhuman like ability they get. And it's fishy, but at the same time I think I kind of like believe.
3/3Some kind like shock, like extreme shock inside your body activates some kind of super power within your brains, because brains only usually, you know, normal daily life, it's like a you use like 5% or 10% of your brain capacity. And so some kind like a rude awakening happens by getting kind of like a you know, it awakens your super power. Have you heard of such a story?
Honestly, part of me wants to get struck by lightning — it can make you special. There are real documented cases: people survive a strike and wake up with abilities they never had. Sounds fishy, but I half believe it — a massive shock to the system unlocking something in the brain.
Have you ever heard stories like that?
「雷に打たれる」は get struck by lightning の1手。

1/4Because you cannot do it, it's very dangerous and uh it's impossible to get, it's all about coincidence. So you can't set some kind of situation where you can get nicely get thunder. It's all about luck and uh most people die.
2/4And but some survived. It's like a uh near death experience is a better word, I think. They are at the edge of life and death and uh they kind of saw some vision, and they get back and they kind of like a changed man.
3/4They changed totally in terms of his view of life. And near death experiments are studied a lot in a scientific field. Some serious scientists have been studied many years, decades.
4/4And it's actually obviously change your brain, how to wire and structurally. At the same time, spiritually speaking, many spiritual people like those kind of stories.
You can't exactly set up a safe lightning strike — it's pure luck, and most people just die. The survivors, though — that's near-death experience territory. People hover at the edge, see visions, and come back a changed man, their whole view of life rewired.
Near-death experiences have been studied seriously for decades, and they really do seem to rewire the brain.

2/4Because death is everywhere. Million things could can take you out. You know what I mean?
3/4Cars, you know, like uh illnesses, you know everything. We are so vulnerable. And but everything, you know in daily life we take everything for granted.
4/4And that's one of the reasons we suffer mentally, physically, because we don't count blessings. Our brains are uh gravitated toward dangers and hates.
Exactly — a deeper appreciation of life. Death is everywhere: a million things could take you out — cars, illness, anything. We're so vulnerable, and still we take it all for granted.
That's partly why we suffer — we don't count our blessings, and our brains gravitate toward danger instead.
take you out / take for granted / vulnerable は全部満点、gravitate だけ受動化(#3) — are を外して自動詞で走らせる。惜しいのは3秒前の new lease on life を盗まなかったこと。

2/4Still they are complaining and uh cannot overcome, you know. I'm talking about me. And what will happen tomorrow or day after tomorrow.
3/4You already concerned about what will happen. Yeah, so you cannot focus on now, you cannot live right here, right now. But a funny fact is you cannot live past or future, you are only right now.
4/4So mental drama is everything for most of the human. They don't know uh beyond thoughts and emotions.
Negativity just loops in your head. Almost everyone's carrying some old trauma — still stuck on something from ten years ago, already worried about tomorrow. I'm talking about me, by the way.
The funny thing is, you can't live in the past or the future — now is all there is. But for most people that mental drama IS everything. They don't know there's anything beyond thoughts and emotions.
I'm talking about me. most of the human は「その人間の大部分」(解剖の話)— most people。be落ち(you're already concerned)と there落ち(there's anything beyond)は第79夜の欠勤者がまだ帰っていない。

1/6Because we are spiritual people, right? Because we don't know when we die. And where we go.
2/6And what's before we born, and uh after. Scientists can't answer. They can make up some kind of, you know, stupid ideas about black hole or big bang, but before big bang, what was that?
3/6So yeah, I'm also very uh firm believer in science. I'm not totally gone into another dimension, you know what I mean? Spiritual woo woo uh guy, no.
4/6I'm in a scientific field. Science proves how things behave. And but they doesn't tell you why.
5/6They tell you how, how some kind of like a physics, how to behave in a physical world. But they don't tell you why. So uh spirituality or religion comes as a place to tell you why.
6/6And most of the bullshit idea, you know what I mean, but uh yeah. I think every person, if you are seriously thinking about stuff, they eventually end up being asking why.

1/4And so Eckhart Tolle is a very simple guy. He like under sell, you know, he's like a very uh reserved, it's not like opposite of some Tony Robbins, you know what I mean? He doesn't speak much and speaks very slowly, maybe put you to sleep kind of like you know.
2/4Most people maybe consider him as a boring old guy. But comedians talk fast, so that they could hold attention. But Eckhart Tolle's way of talking also attracts some audiences.
3/4His famous phrase is like a voice in your head. And voice in your head is not you. We are aware of thoughts, emotions, and sensory stimulus.
4/4But we are not that. He says we are not the thoughts in your mind, not the emotions, not the body.
Tolle himself is very understated — reserved, the total opposite of Tony Robbins. He talks so slowly he might put you to sleep, and plenty of people write him off as a boring old man. Comedians talk fast to hold your attention; Tolle pulls you in by doing the opposite.

4/4And some serious curious scientists visited his villages. And his best is he he's a Hindu.

So then — who are we? That's the big question. There's also Ramana Maharshi, an Indian sage from just a century ago.
People put him on the level of Jesus or the Buddha — everybody admires him to this day, and serious scientists actually visited his ashram.
sage(聖者)は英検1級帯の選球。

Anyway — this is an English lesson, I keep reminding myself. Sorry, I'm just monologuing.

1/6I'm pretty aware of it. This is the English class at the end of the day. But it's very good for me to talk about what I'm interested, so it's very easy for me to speak English.
2/6Because I've read so many books about Eckhart Tolle and Ramana Maharshi, so I can talk about them in English. And so Ramana Maharshi's, what was his philosophy? Uh, it's beyond philosophy.
3/6It's like existence. His famous words: many followers asked, how do I get enlightenment? And he asked them, who are you?
4/6Who am I? Maybe who am I is the best answer. And obviously silence is the way to know who you are.
5/6But seekers don't want to be silent. And continue to talk to other spiritual teachers, go to holy places, so that they wish that gives you some kind of spiritual experiences. But Ramana's answer is simple.
6/6Ask yourself who am I. And be still. Be still and know that you are God is a English phrase, right?
It IS an English class at the end of the day — but talking about what I love makes the English come easy. So, Ramana's teaching? It goes beyond philosophy — it's about existence itself.
Followers kept asking how to get enlightened, and he'd turn it around: who are you? Who am I? The method is silence — but seekers hate silence, so they chase gurus and holy places instead.
His answer never changed: ask 'who am I,' and be still.

1/2So what I'm doing right now is uh contrary to Ramana's teaching. I speak. But it's like a practical reason.
2/2I'm not here to be enlightened, you know what I mean. I'm here to speak, to brush up my English and improve my English. Ultimate truth has nothing to do with English or your improvements.
So technically I'm going against Ramana's teaching right now — by talking. But hey, practical reasons: I'm not here to get enlightened, I'm here to brush up my English. Ultimate truth has nothing to do with my English scores.

Yeah, but I think it's sort of everyone's truth is different in certain ways. We all kind of gravitate to a certain philosophy or a certain ideology that kind of helps to make the world make sense to us a little better, because I think for most of us the world is a scary place.
make the world make sense
